When you think about exercises for abs, you’re almost certainly associating them with these two words: sit ups. I’m actually not surprised because sit ups are one of the most, if not the most, common forms of abdominal exercises out there. I wouldn’t be shocked if my grandmother knew what they were.
Nevertheless, you need to recognize that there are other more efficient ways to get abs than just sit ups. The best way to get the most out of any abs workout is to add a certain degree of variety and perform them on a regular basis.
Combining these abdominal muscle exercises with a full body workout and a well-balanced diet is practically full-proof. Keep all three aspects present and thriving, and you will definitely see results fast.
Recent studies show that ball crunches, full body crunches, weighted sit ups, and bicycles are the 4 most effective exercises for a no nonsense 6 pack. Read on and find out why:
1. Bicycles. Not only does it involve your obliques, upper abdominals, and lower abdominals, but it also conditions your legs, lower back, and arms. For this drill, you need to lie on the floor and touch your fingers to your ears. Bend your knees and begin alternating cycling movements with your legs. As your right knee comes in, lift and twist so that your left elbow touches it. Simply do the same on the other side.
2. Weighted Sit Ups. With these exercises for abs, your abs get pushed a little further through resistance training. They’re very similar to regular sit ups so they’re not complicated to do at all. You will need some small weights, like a pair of light dumbbells, and you must secure them on your chest with both hands. Now, lift your shoulders off the floor as you would with regular sit ups.
3. Full Body Crunches. As the name implies, these exercises work your arms, back, and legs, just like bicycles. To begin, simply lie down, place your hands across your chest, and bend at the knees. Lift your torso up the floor and pull in both knees at the same time. Lie back down and start again.
4. Ball Crunches. These exercises for abs are responsible for working your entire core while promoting balance. You’ll have a lot of fun with this one, I promise. First, take an exercise ball and sit on it. Roll the ball underneath until your back is resting on it and your thighs are parallel to the floor. Begin doing crunches as you would on a flat surface. The ball’s just there to provide lower back support and make it a little more challenging.
Work these 4 basic exercises for abs into your regular six pack abs workout routines and you can bid farewell to excess belly fat for good.

The Truth about Six Pack Abs
The answer to the age-old question of “What is the best ab workout for losing stomach fat?” is… None! Ab workouts alone don’t create enough of a metabolic response in your body to create fat loss.
Many fitness professionals and nutrition specialists, are often asked what are the best types of exercises for losing stubborn stomach fat to bring out a visible six pack. The problem is that most people with excess stomach fat are looking to try to uncover their abs by searching for some “miracle abdominal workout” that is going to slash the fat off their abs in no time. Click here for more information on how to lose belly fat fast.
The thing is they are approaching the problem in entirely the wrong way! Ab workouts and sit ups don’t lose stomach fat!
The problem is that focusing most of your time and effort on sit up’s and abs workouts to try to flatten your stomach and bring out 6-pack abs is simply wasting your time from doing the correct workout programs that will actually reduce your body fat for good!
If I were to choose an answer as to what the best exercises are for losing belly fat, my answer would include full body exercises such as the following: various forms of squats, lunges, deadlifts, clean & presses, snatches, swings, presses and pulls, mountain climbers, sprinting, etc.
These types of full body exercises would encompass a much higher percentage of the workouts instead of abs exercises directly targeting the midsection. The way you combine those full body exercises into a strategic workout that maximizes your metabolism is also very important.
It is recommend that you do a certain amount of exercises that specifically target the abs, but these are only a tiny part of the programs you should be pursuing as your time is better spent focusing on the full body exercises that stimulate the greatest hormonal and metabolic changes within the body. In addition, a side-effect of working out using mostly full body multi-joint combo exercises are that you indirectly work your entire midsection even though you are not specifically targeting the abs. Follow this link for more on Mike Geary abs.
Keep in mind that the most important factor for losing belly fat to see your abs is actually in the nutrition arena. No matter how hard you workout, if your diet is full of junk, then your abdominals will be covered with ugly fat. There is no doubt that Nutrition is the “key” to getting a six pack.
So Let’s be clear about this…
Stop wasting so much of your time focusing on sit ups, crunches, leg raises, and all those silly worthless “ab contraptions” in your efforts to try to develop 6-pack abs. Instead, concentrate on full body lifts, multi joint exercises coupled with a healthy diet packed with unprocessed foods, and those elusive six packs will be yours in no time!

When men or women finally get fed up with their flabby stomachs and want to get rid of their belly fat, they think something like working out with an abs workout, typically doing crunches or situps.
But this is NOT the solution! Those sexy models you see on TV didn't get those ripped abs doing crunches or "ab-roller" routines.
It simple DOES NOT WORK. To get a slimmer waist, you must lose the layers of body fat that is covering your abs. Have you ever seen anyone that has 6 pack abs but fat arms? If you want to get a slimmer waist or a 6 pack you have to mobilize your body to burn body fat. The exercises you do must elicit a fat burning response from the body. Only when the body has a elevated metabolic response primarily from resistance training and proper cardio exercises.
The struggle to vanquish belly fat is won or lost on the battlefield of nutrition and exercise-in that order.
You can’t just do the latest lame “ab-rocker gizmo” exercise to get a slimmer waist, You must workout your overall body to melt fat and then the the fat covering your abs will begin to slim down naturally.
So what are the proper exercises to lose body fat? Aerobics is excellent if done in a cyclic, variable manner. (swimming, cycling, raquetball or even brisk walking) Do 15 minutes a day to start and work up to 30-45. The highest quality aerobic exercises are running, cycling, jumping rope, and swimming. Weight lifting with free weights or kettlebells. are excellent too. The more you can increase muscle mass the more that unwanted fat will just naturally burn. This is why many of us could eat whatever you wanted to as a kid and never gain weight. You had such a lean muscle mass fat tissue hardly had a chance to accumulate!
However, if you are overweight by 50 pounds or more, then do something causing less pressure on your joints like brisk walking or swimming.. It is also instructive to remember that 70% of the battle of the bulge is won at the dinner table. Here's a simple rule: don't eat it if it's been pre-packaged, processed, or fished out of a deep fat fryer! Gradually add more fresh, whole unprocessed LIVE foods to your diet. Fresh and dried frut, raw nuts, green leafy vegetables, and whole grains.
It is not as easy as you think but do it at first because you SHOULD and then you will do it because you want to later on. It involves dedication and hard work to keep in shape especially with all the fast food and junk so readily available to us. Avoid "dieting", especially the low fat, or low carb or "low something" fad diets. it is clearly better for your health and your weight to eat a broad selection of fresh, living foods. Remember, a “living” diet composed primarily of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds, will greatly aid in your fat loss journey.
